To commemorate the big butterfly month on the 18th of September 2021 we drove to the Government Tribal Residency school in Garkiyoor, Aracode as a humble effort, to create conservation interest among the general public for the lesser-known insects that ‘rule the world’. With a group of 15 students from classes 9th and 10th, we delved deeper into the world of butterflies. Starting from their life cycle to their complex adaptive strategies we explored them in a fun way. We watched the movie: Life of Butterflies by Samillan Shetty and walked a trail to identify and observe these colorful insects. At the end of the day, we did a fun activity of folding origami butterflies, and it’s safe to say that students went home with their minds full of fascination, wonder, and a new favorite toy – the paper Butterfly they folded themselves.
